Given the presence of dangerous carnivorous dinosaurs,it should be no surprise that there were heavily armoured dinosaurs such as the Ankylosaurus.
Description[]
They were stubborn four legged monsters reaching up to four metres long. They possessed a horned head and spiked flanks,and a back covered in iron hard armour-plated scales. It defended itself with a powerful though not flexible mace-like club of bone at the end of its muscular tail;it was perfectly capable of snapping bones and breaking legs. They were mostly herbivores.
Origins and Distribution[]
They were found in the world beyond the Portal of Evil, which lay in southwest Khul.

Real World Equivalent[]
Ankylosaurus was a species of Predentate Dinosaur of the late Cretaceous Period. The Fighting Fantasy Ankylosaurus is obviously based on this, but there are problems. The the feet, carapace, skull, and especially the fanged mouth (for what is a herbivore) are wrong for the individual illustrated in Portal of Evil.[2] A much more accurate picture of an Ankylosaurus can be found in Robot Commando.[3]
