Arantis is a land of luxurious vegetation in south-west Allansia.[1] It has been described as a land of "tropical plains and jungle."[2]

Geography[]

Kaynlesh-Ma is the capital of Arantis, with Halak and Rimon being the other the main settlements of the state. [1] Halak and Rimon are twin cities set on either side of the Bay of Elkor. [3] The settlement of Greenhome lies near east of Halak. [4] The River Eltus flows through the country. The river plays a vital part in nourishing Arantis' crops and the people of Arantis worship the river as if it were a god. The country is bordered its north by the mountains called the Uron Heights.[5] The river Trask is traditionally considered the eastern border of Arantis. [6]

The soldiers of Arantis occasionally war with the lizard men of the Silur Cha Empire when the latter send troops into the Snakelands. So far the Arantian military has blocked any attempt by the Lizard Men to expand westwards.[7] South east of Halak was the landmark called Phoenix Finger, a solitary, weathered stone pinnacle. [8] A long day trek away from the Phoenix Finger are the Sun Pools. [9]

In the east of the country lies some mountains, called the Arantian Highlands. Here is the base of the Riddling Reaver - the Realm of Entropy containing the "Reaver's Retreat" mansion.[10][11] Further east is a thick jungle; located near this jungle is a peak with the Shrine of Destiny, a shrine containing a gigantic creature, at its summit.[12] There is a Temple of the Monkey God within the mountaintop jungles of Arantis; the legendary Heartfire Ruby is believed to have been pilfered from the temple by the adventurer Sartosa Lux.[13]

According to the Dave Holt Map of Allansia, the jungle in the east of Arantis is named the Saynesthis Jungle.[14]

History[]

In the period before the Splitting of Irritaria, the region later to become northern Arantis was ruled by the pharaohs of Djarat.[15] The region's main city, Kaynlesh-Ma, was founded in 1585OT.[16] Ancient Arantis was ruled by a dynasty of warrior queens. [17]

Within Arantis, a group of scholars had found an long-forgotten temple, reportedly dating back to the earliest period of Titan's history. The temple was inhabited by the ghosts of three ancient sorcerers, who had reappeared on the Earthly Plane because they had believe it was time humanity learned the magical arts again. The five scholars agreed to learn the magical arts and teach them to the people of Allansia. The five scholars refurbished the temple - called Aranath - and renamed themselves the Five Sorcerers. Starting in the 1690sOT the sorcerers, at the request of the ghosts, began to travel Allansia and teach magic to all who requested it.[18]

People[]

The inhabitants of Arantis included humans, desert elves, and the mysterious race called the chervah.[19] The Arantians spoke their own language, Arantian, a dialect of the Allansian Common Tongue. An Allansian speaker could usually understand the gist of sentence spoken in Arantian.[20] Pen Ty Kora, the Healer, was born in Arantis. [21] The Sun Pools are the home of the Hamakei mystic Vulpa Heartsfire. [9]

The ruler of Arantis was called the Overpriest of Kaynlesh-Ma.

In the uplands of High Arantis live tribes of Amazon warriors, as well as semi-legendary Bird Women.[22][23]
