Astonbury was a northern Gallantaria village, on the edge of the Glaydon Forest.
Description[]
Near Astonbury was a pier on the River Merton, with barges. These barges could ferry a traveller to the village of Axmoor. [1]
History[]
A large part of Astonbury's population were wiped out by the Demon-plague.[1]
The surviving villagers built a barricade across the southern road to Astonbury, painted red crosses on the barricade, and warned travellers not to enter the village. [2]

- It is possible, given that the River Merton flowed eastward, that this river was a tributary of the larger Whitewater River in Gallantaria. The map on the inside cover of the The Tasks of Tantalon, showed the Whitewater River to have a unnamed branch in north west Gallantaria. [3]
This branch joined another branch that flowed down from the Cragrock Peaks. These rivers joined outside the town Klisdon, ultimately flowing into the Onyx Sea. [4] Given Dead of Night was set in north west Gallantaria, that could mean the River Merton was this unnamed tributary of the Whitewater River.[4]
