Beyond the Pit is an expansion title for Advanced Fighting Fantasy (AFF2) written by Andrew Wright as a follow-up to Out of the Pit. It is based on Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy series. The book was illustrated by various artists and was published in 2014 (ISBN TBC).

Creation[]

For several years, Fighting Fantasy fans had tried to write a sequel to Out of the Pit, documenting the creatures from the later gamebooks, but none of these efforts reached completion.[1] Finally, Graham Bottley asked Andrew Wright to write a book for AFF detailing 250 Fighting Fantasy monsters. Wright agreed to this task.[1] Wright complied a database to help him with this project: "With the help of the online Titannica wiki and the Titanorians at the Titan Rebuilding Yahoo! group, I'd finished compiling a database of every creature mentioned in every Fighting Fantasy related project". [1] It took Wright two years to finish writing the book. Other issues appeared during the book's writing: "Stephen Hand requested that any monsters from his books (Dead of Night, Legend of the Shadow Warriors and Moonrunner) be removed. This was a shame as I felt Stephen had created some truly memorable foes...but we had to respect his wishes." [1] Arion Games asked to the artists who illustrated the original gamebooks to reprint their illustrations in Beyond the Pit. Most of the artists agreed to this, but Dave Carson and Ian Miller declined: Bottley sourced replacement artwork for the monsters these artists had originally illustrated from artist Jason Lenox.[1] The book was funded by a 2013 Kickstarter campaign.[1][2]

Background[]

The world of Titan is a dangerous place, filled with monsters, animals, constructs and demons of all kinds.

The original Out of the Pit book brought you 250 of these monsters, although this barely contained the most common! Now, we bring you another 250 dangerous and intriguing denizens of Titan.

Whether using this book to provide adversaries for Advanced Fighting Fantasy heroes or simply as a companion as you pit your skill against the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, the descriptions and illustrations herein will prove invaluable in your travels through the world of Fighting Fantasy.
