Blackhearts were a race of humanoids.[1]
Description[]
Blackhearts were said by some (likely their enemies) to unite the foulest attributes of dark elves and orcs in both appearance and demeanor. Their faces possessed none of the dark elves' sinister grace and beauty, instead sporting crude, twisted features and mouths with rows of finely pointed teeth. Blackhearts were seen by many as cunning and merciless opponents who would attack an opponent as soon as they laid eyes on them.[2][3]
It was said they preferred to strike from an ambush or from positions where their enemies were at a disadvantage,[4] and that like nearly all troopers of Evil they had no sense of honor or mercy.[5]
Origins and Distribution[]
Blackhearts were crossbreeds between dark elves and orcs; how exactly these mutations came into being remained unclear.[6][7]
They are exclusive to the continent of Khul, where they are commonly found in the northern regions. It is known that they participated in the War of the Wizards as part of the Forces of Chaos; they were ostensibly destroyed by the legendary hero Brendan Bloodaxe on the Battlegrounds of Chaos, but the race ultimately survived to this day.[8]
They dwelt in villages which, similar to the make up of their blood, were somewhere between the crudeness of Orc settlements and the sophistication of dark elves settlements in appearance.
Blackhearts were usually employed as scouts and shock troops in the armies of Evil. Their weapon of choice was the jagged scimitar or a long-ranged bow.
Warrior parties might camp in regions for many days at a time.[9]
Special Abilities[]
As a crossbreed of two creatures originating from the underground, Blackhearts had the ability of Dark Seeing, but were also comfortable in operating in daylight.
