Bythos is the "Master of the Abyss" and the antagonist of the book Slaves of the Abyss. [1] He has supernatural powers and two forms; a human-sized form he adopts when he visits Titan, and a fifty-foot tall giant form in his home in the Abyss. Bythos can also expel a freezing breath that imprisons its target in icy crystal, unless the target has protection against it.[1]
According to some sources, Bythos was a former adventurer from the region of Allansia on the Glimmering Sea coast, whose behaviour caused him to be exiled from all the city-states in this region. Bythos travelled to the Infernal Pit, where he acquired magical powers and built a palace on the Plane of Platinum. It is said Bythos is now plotting to return and destroy these city-states.[2] Bythos became the Master of the The Abyss (disambiguation) after becoming disciple of Akkarra and then backstabbing him.[3]
Further Notes[]
- Bythos is derived from Ancient Greek βυθός "depth, especially of the sea". It is also a name of the Supreme Being in Gnosticism.
