Carsepolis is the ancient city upon whose ruins Port Blacksand now stands.
History[]
In 1408 OT Cares Stormchild, the leader of a nomadic tribe of the Pagan Plains, settled his people at the mouth of the Catfish River. He went on to build a bridge across the river and a stockade around the settlement which became known as Cares-Town. The settlement continued to grow and in the reign of King Coros Sword-breaker became known as Carsepolis being ruled over by the Dynasty of Swords. The Human inhabitants of Carsepolis used the Ancient Allansian language for speech and writing.[1]
In 1649 OT it became the recognised capital of Allansia, the name given to the north-west area of the continent that we call Old Allansia.[2] Carsepolis' empire stretched from the Whitewater River to the River Kok.[3] A Carsepolitan naval captain, Chalad Dhurang, also annexed Blood Island for Carsepolis and built Port Wintersholm on the island as a base for the city's navy.[4] The city by this point was a large port with wide streets and was a seat of culture. The Carespolis school of wizardry became famous and attracted students of wizardry from all over the Allansian continent.[3] The Carsepolitan army was well-trained and equipped, and feared throughout Allansia.[5] The city thrived for many decades. However, it was struck by Plague on the 28th of Unlocking, 1887 OT,[6] and it was all but destroyed in the Siege of Carsepolis in 1999 OT, that most crucial of turning points in the War of the Wizards. Although the battle and eventually the war had been won, the city was so badly damaged that it was rendered uninhabitable. Carespolis was abandoned, and its people were given shelter in Salamonis and Shazâar.[7]
Further Notes[]
The director's notes in Dungeoneer state that the weapons and equipment of the Carsepolitan soliders strongly resemble those of real-world Roman Legionaries.[5] This suggests that Carsepolitan civilization may be Titan's version of Ancient Rome.
