Chaos (force) is a name used by the scholars of Titan to describe a malign supernatural force that appears on the planet. This force is a magical energy that can warp living things, and disrupt the processes of the natural world. [1]
Description[]
The exact origin of Chaos is unknown, but it is believed to appear when flows of magical energy from other Planes of Existence (especially the Elemental or Demonic Planes) swirl onto Titan's surface. [2] The dangerous weed called the Chaos Plant is known to grow in areas "tainted" by Chaos, such as the Wastes of Chaos, Kakhabad, Fire Island, and places where Greater Demons have stayed on Titan over a lengthy period of time.[3]
Several areas of Titan are permanently "tainted" with Chaos. These include the Wastes of Chaos of central Khul, the Baklands of the eastern Old World, and the sewers of Carsepolis under Port Blacksand in western Allansia.[1][4][5]
Creatures strongly affected by Chaos can become the twisted chaos mutants.[6][7]
History[]
The Chaos force is closely linked with the very concept of Evil. Indeed, the armies that serve the Dark Lords on Titan call themselves the forces of "Evil and Chaos".[1]
In the Godtime, the Dark Lords infused several types of creature (including Orcs and Ogres) with the malevolent power of Chaos - a curse these species carry to this day.[8]
During the catastrophic conflict called the War of the Wizards, vast amounts of Chaos force were released onto Titan, permanently damaging the planet.[1][9]
Further Notes[]
- Prior to the outbreak of the War of the Wizards, Allansian sorcerers and mystics complained about "the presence of Chaos on the Spirit Planes."[10]
- A school of Magic, Chaos Magic, is said by its practitioners to gain its power by "tapping into the raw chaos that underlies Titan".[11]
