Chiang Mai is a principality of north-western Allansia.[1] Its capital is Fang, a city ruled over by a powerful Baron.[2]

Geography[]

Chiang Mai lies in the north-west of the continent of Allansia between the Pagan Plains and the Icefinger Mountains.[3]  The most significant river is the River Kok,[4] which runs from the Forest of Fiends in the west to the sea in the east.[5] The river Kok runs through Chiang Mai and the neighbouring Kaypong. Fang enjoys the commerce that the river fosters as merchant ships and barges pass through on their way to the coast. Other locations in Chiang Mai include the River Kok, and the Marshes of Kok.[6][1] The boundary area between Chiang Mai and Kaypong seems to lie in the area directly north of Firetop Mountain.[7] According to one source, there is a ridge of peaks projecting from the Icefinger Mountains near Fang. This ridge is called the Charavask Mountains.[8]

Climate[]

Chiang Mai tends to have warm, dry weather in the late spring and summer, and cool, wet weather in the early spring and autumn. Winters are bitterly cold, with heavy snowfalls.[9]

Population[]

Most of Chiang Mai's inhabitants are Humans. One notable group of humans in the area are the barbarian Gumar Hunters.[10] Small groups of Dwarves and Mountain Elves live in the region. [11]

History[]

Chiang Mai was one of the provinces within the realm of mighty Goldoran. After the collapse of that great nation, during the War of the Wizards, some of the old provinces began to re-establish themselves as autonomous regions. One of those was Chiang Mai, with Fang as its capital.

The current ruler is Baron Sukumvit Charavask of the Sukumvit dynasty.

Settlements[]

Several settlements are known in Chiang Mai: the capital city, Fang, the city of Kaad, and the village of Claw.[6] Near Fang, on the river Kok, sits the small village of Kokbridge. Kokbridge was once menaced by the evil magician Anakendis.[12] Near Fang, a day's ride southwest of the city, lies the village of Cornerstone. This village gets its name from the enormous menhir situated at Cornerstone's border.[13]

Notes[]

  • According to the Deathtrap Dungeon (d20) adventure, there was previously a war waging between Chiang Mai and Kaypong, that ended when Baron Sukumvit brokered a peace treaty between the two kingdoms.[14]
