A Cloak Haunt is a type of Magical Creature/Monster from the Fighting Fantasy franchise.
Origins and Distribution[]
The exact origins of Cloak Haunts are unknown, nor is it known whether they serve the biddings of a master. It is more likely that they are opportunistic predators waiting in disguise for an unwary warm-blooded victim to come close, at which point they spring into deadly action. If deprived on a regular food source, they are capable of enduring by entering a hybernative state until an opportunity presents itself.[1] While no definite information is yet known, its hunting methods and appearance hint at a possible relationship with the Wrapper.
Description[]
As its name implies, a Cloak Haunt appears much like a black, but harmless-looking cloak or robe.[1]
Special Abilities[]
A Cloak Haunt usually attacks with surprise, especially when a victim comes closer to investigate an item situated close by, launching itself through the air similar in manner to a Wrapper's hunting technique.
When the Haunt scores two hits in succession, it wraps itself around the victim's head, cutting of it breathing. This results in an automatic loss of 1 stamina point per combat round, as well as a deduction of 1 skill point for the victim because of the tight hold the Haunt has scored on him.[1] A victim's companions may strike against a Haunt with no such restrictions, but there may be a danger that a blow may harm both the Haunt and its victim.
