Dolphins were a type of marine Animal in the Fighting Fantasy world.

Description[]

While a Dolphin looked much like a fish, it was actually a warm-blooded mammal. The physical main differences to fish are that Dolphins had a blowhole on the upper front of their heads (substituting the nose on land animals), that their tail fins were oriented horizontally instead of perpendicularly (as it is the case with fish), and that their skin was smooth and scaleless.

Dolphins possessed teeth, but they did not use them in combat; instead, they attacked an enemy with a running charge and butted with their hard snouts.

They were sometimes preyed upon by plesiosaurs.

Dolphins sometimes befriended sea giants, though they found them to be slow.[1][2]

Origins and Distribution[]

Dolphins were native exclusively in the salty waters of Titan's oceans. They were social nomads and usually moved around in groups (so-called "pods"), hunting swarms of smaller fish,[3] though on occasion singular dolphins were encountered. Dolphins were very active creatures; if someone (usually by magic) was able to communicate with one, they would find that a Dolphin tended to chatter rapidly, making it hard to follow what it said.[4]

Dolphins were usually friendly to humans (unless they got injured by them) and tended to aid people who had fallen into the sea;[5] there were many folklore stories of Dolphins carrying sailors gone overboard to the nearest shore. Dolphins were the mortal enemy of sharks and would fight them if numbers allowed it; otherwise they tended to flee.[6]

Special Abilities[]

Dolphins were very rapid swimmers, able to outdistance most opposition.
