Eren Dûrdinath (also known as Stittle Woad) is a hidden Wood Elf village located in the Forest of Spiders, within the Moonstone Hills.[1][2][3]
Description[]
Eren Dûrdinath is representative of Elven communities across Titan. The village is "secreted in the heart of old woodland" and "built in the traditional style, on wooden platforms among the tree-tops, connected to one another and the ground by rope ladders and narrow walkways".[1]
The Elves of Eren Dûrdinath are notable for their distinctive white hair, their formidable magical powers, and their use of the creatures called Ophidiotaurs as riding mounts.[2]
Government[]
Eren Dûrdinath is ruled over by a Queen. The current is ruler of the village is Queen Ethilesse.[2] The Elves choose a young maiden to be appointed "Elf Princess", and to be trained as the Queen. On her eighteenth birthday, the maiden undergoes a special ritual where she communes with the Elven gods. After the ritual is complete, the maiden is crowned Queen of Eren Dûrdinath.[2]
The Vapours of Stittle Woad[]
Four seasons after her coronation, the Queen of Eren Dûrdinath would give birth. This birth would take place in a special ceremony where the Queen was attended by her priests and priestesses. When the Queen left the birthing ceremony, she always left it alone, which puzzled the other villagers. Only the priests knew the truth.[2] Instead of giving birth to a normal child, the Queen gave birth to a benevolent spirit. This spirit-also called a Vapour - gifted the Queen with a special power. Whichever Elf deity that had been present at the Elf princess's communion gave her Vapour his special power, which was to be used wisely by her as ruler. The Vapour's birth ritual was unknown to all but the monarch herself and her priests. After the birth the Vapour, safely kept in a glass flask, remained with the priests. The Queen is only able to call on the Vapour's power once during her reign, during the night of the "Celestial Equinox".[2]
The Rainbow Ponds[]
South of the village, in an enchanted glade of Speartip Trees, are the Rainbow Ponds, which are said to give special powers to any that bathe in them.[2][4] The Elves of Eren Dûrdinath guard the Rainbow Ponds from outsiders.[2]
History[]
An Elf from Eren Dûrdinath, Leeha Falsehope once visited a tavern in the town of Chalice. He became drunk, and revealed the existence of Eren Dûrdinath, and the magical Vapours, to the tavern's other patrons. Upon sobering up, Falsehope realised he had said too much.
In an effort to throw the Humans off the scent, he claimed the village's name was "Stittle Woad". Nevertheless, the other Wood Elves learned of Falsehope's behaviour, and after returning home Falsehope lived out the rest of his days in disgrace.[2] "Even today, the family of Erulia Falsehope, Leeha’s great-grandson, must bear the shame."[2]
