Flying Guardians were a type of magical creature usually to be found guarding something of value.[1]
Description[]
They resembled ostrich-like birds with hooked beaks, short wings and taloned feet. Some were made of stone, while others appeared merely stuffed.[1]
They would remain dormant in a statue-like pose due to their magical creation until what they guarded was disturbed, then they would come to live with stilted movements before taking to the air to attack intruders, often cawing loudly to alert other guardians.[2][1]
Should the threat be dispatched, any surviving flying guardians would return to their dormant state.[1]
Origins and Distribution[]
In the northern province of Chiang Mai it was traditional to leave a pair of Flying Guardians to watch over a tomb or temple.[1]
