Gandor Dire was the father of Craggen Dire and grandfather of Balthus Dire.[1]

Gandor was driven out of his native town of Warpstone, for practicing forbidden magic.[2] Gandor, his wife and their young son Craggen then travelled across the Craggen Heights. He and his family found shelter near Craggen Rock, and he decided to build a fortress there.[2] Gandor slowly amassed an army of followers, and then began construction of the infamous Black Tower.[2]

Gandor became increasingly tolerant and sympathetic towards the forces of Chaos, and he allowed Orcs, Rhino-Men and other beings to live in the Black Tower and work for him.[2] Upon his death, Craggen inherited the Black Tower.[2]
