A Gargantis was a vast scaled behemoth of a creature, with a single horn jutting from its head.

Description[]

The immense gargantis stood four or five metres in height, with a primitive dinosaur-like head tipped with a great spiral horn similar to that of a unicorns. Despite having incredibly poor vision, its senses of hearing and smell more than compensated for this, and its claws were long and more than capable of piercing armour. This, combined with its sheer bulk, made it more than able to overwhelm any attempt at killing it without resorting to magic.[1]

Furthermore, an attack from behind was unlikely to result in any greater measure of success, since the thick tail of the gargantis would be lashing around behind the creature and making it almost as dangerous as a frontal attack.

The horn of a gargantis was said to possess great magical powers, similar to that of a unicorn. In particular, it was rumoured to be useful as a weapon in ensuring the permanent destruction of the mightiest Greater Undead, such as Razaak.[2]

Origins and Distribution[]

The exact origins of the gargantis were unknown, as were the extents of its distribution. The only recorded encounter with one of these vast monsters occurred in the Howling Tunnels of the Moonstone Hills by the adventurer sent to destroy Razaak - ironically, it was that necromancer who had been raising the horror.[3]

Special Abilities[]

The gargantis was able to cause insanity in those who attack it through a defensive psychic attack it emits whenever it is subjected to pain. This could be avoided with a Crystal of Sanity.[4]
