A Gladiator (also known as a Pit Fighter) is a warrior who fights in the brutal public combats which are staged by the rulers of depraved cities like Port Blacksand and Ashkyos, or are organised by sadistic oligarchs like Lord Carnuss Charavask.[1][2][3][4]
Description[]
Gladiators are often kidnapped slaves, or condemned prisoners sent into the arena in the likelihood of their meeting a violent death.[5] A few, however, are free individuals who choose to be gladiators as a lucrative (if deadly) way to earn a living.[3]
Gladiators usually fought with swords, clubs, tridents and nets.[6]
Gladiators typically fought other gladiators, but are sometimes pitted against various dangerous beasts specially chosen by the organisers of the gladiatorial contests. Such beasts included the pit fiend, the arena beast, and the bonecrusher.[5][7][8]
Origins and Distribution[]
The gladiatorial battles in the Port Blacksand Sports Arena, the Ashkyos Gladiatorial Park, and Carnuss' Arena of Death have become infamous across Titan.[1]
Notable Gladiators[]
- Helios Siren, the Khulian human gladiator who won the All-comers Fight to the Death at the Port Blacksand Sports Arena.[1]
- Urzle Ironface, a former human gladiator turned assassin.[9]
- Uzgork Ironhide, the acclaimed rhino-man gladiator who fought as a prisoner-gladiator on Blood Island, and later as a free gladiator in the Port Blacksand Sports Arena. [10]
