Greyguilds-on-the-Moor, at the time of Talisman of Death (book), is a major city of learning of the world of Orb.[1] It lies on the edge of a large plain, called the Manmarch, or lands of men, and it is not too far from the Rift.[2]There are city walls, fortifications and huge arched gates protect the entrances to the city.[3]
The religious orders hold all the power in the Greyguilds: the God Vagar has the most followers, there is a Death (Orb) temple, the armed forces protecting the city are the warrior-women that worship the goddess Fell-Kyrinla (the Watch) and the followers of the All-Mother.[4] There is rivalry between the Priestesses of the All-Mother and the Watch, that are law-enforcers, as the leniency of the Priestesses has annoyed them.[5]
