A Gunderwal was a giant, ochre-coloured reptile with eight legs.[1]
Description[]
Gunderwals were evidently herbivorous, preferring to crop grass when hungry.
Saltsuckers would sometimes feed upon the salt on a gunderwal's skins, which the beasts would typically pay no attention to.
Origins and Distribution[]
They were used by the Desert Lizard Men of the southern Khul region as a beast of burden. Trade caravans of Gunderwals were sometimes seen crossing the Scythera Desert, or stationed outside the cities on the western side of the Inland Sea. [2][3]
Gunderwals were sometimes carried off, killed, and eaten by the malevolent Orange Dragons.[4]
Further Notes[]
- The beasts ridden by the Lizard Men were not named in Seas of Blood. However, Andrew Chapman named the beasts as "Gunderwals" in his novel Ashkar the Magnificent, and Andrew Wright used this name for the creatures in Beyond the Pit.[3][5]
