Hellsgate (known as Haellsgarth or Haelsgarth in the original Dwarven language) is a vast mountain in the north-east of the Moonstone Hills.
History[]
The mountain was once a Dwarvish settlement honeycombing the whole mountain down to its underground.[1][2]
The wizard Axion discovered that in the heart of Hellsgate there was a magic well that extended life. Axion then conquered the mountain in the year 1729 OT, making it the heart of his empire.[2] Axion killed or expelled all the Dwarfs that lived in Haelsgarth, forcing the survivors to flee to other locations. One of these locations was Redweed, later known as Firetop Mountain.[2][3] Some of the other dwarfs fled to Warpstone.[1]
Eventually, Axion was defeated and killed. Hellsgate was abandoned for centuries with no master, and fell into ruin.
Later, the wizard Cawlis managed to gather an inhuman army around him and brought back Axion to existence as an undeadbeing, using an artefact called the Bloodstone. Cawlis hoped to learn Axion's secrets. However, they were both defeated by Yaztromo and Chadda Darkmane.
