Spoiler Warning!!!: Plot and/or ending details of a Fighting Fantasy publication follow. Please DO NOT read this article if you do not want foreknowledge of this publication. Although the article below is based on canon, some of its content is considered extrapolation because it assumes a certain course of events through an adventure that has many possible routes. Finally, the use of "Hero" and other male- gender expressions pertaining to the subject in the article and/or title of the article is not intended to exclude the possibility that the hero was female.

"Spoiler!" Beware!

The Hero of Armies of Death survived Baron Sukumvit's infamous Deathtrap Dungeon and claimed the purse of 20,000 Gold Pieces, a feat that was thought impossible, despite having been achieved at least once before.[1]

Hearing tales of a Shadow Demon called Agglax assembling an army in the east, the hero decided to use the portion of his or her winnings left over after commissioning a castle to recruit a small force and defeat this enemy.[2]

The hero used a Crystal of Light to banish Agglax, after which the evil army disintegrated. The hero's army returned to Fang in triumph, although the hero's personal fortune was entirely expended during the quest.[3]

It is possible that the hero also took part in other books, either before or afterwards. In particular, he or she may be the protagonist of Trial of Champions. The prize of 20,000 Gold Pieces is the same as in that book (and double that in the original Deathtrap Dungeon) and the obstacles mentioned in taverns are the same as in that incarnation of the dungeon.[4]

However, at the end of Trial of Champions, the hero had recruited an army due to a desire to conquer the unknown lands east of the Moonstone Hills and there was no mention of Agglax or fighting a demon.[5] One explanation is that the hero decided to recruit an army of conquest, then heard about Agglax whilst planning the recruitment posters and changed his or her plans slightly.

Alternatively, the hero could be a third conqueror of Deathtrap Dungeon and there are two armies operating in the region at different times.

The three Pre-generated Player Characters are the same as those in Deathtrap Dungeon and Trial of Champions, indicating that the heroes of all three may have been the same person. However, as there are three characters, it is also possible that each book was completed by a different one or two books by one and one by another. Alternatively, these characters may have died whilst attempting one of these books and the hero may be someone else entirely.
