"Spoiler!" Beware!

The Hero of The Gates of Death was initially an acolyte of the Guardians of the Crucible, on Crucible Isles.

When sailors came to ask for help from the Guardians when the Demon Plague spread across Allansia, a group of Guardians left for Kaynlesh-Ma with sixty vials of Smoke-Oil, a cure for the disease. Their mission is to give these vials to the High Priestess of the Invisible City, so that she can produce enough to save everyone.[1]

However, the maritime setbacks suffered by the expedition led to many losses. Thus, only the hero and his mentor, Brother Tobyn, reached Allansia in Port Blacksand, far from their initial goal.[2]

Brother Tobyn was contaminated and died in the city of thieves, leaving the hero with the mission to find and reach the Invisible City alone.

During his journey, he discovered that the Invisible City, located in the Plain of Bronze, was also the origin of the epidemic. He crossed the continent from west to east, passed through Silverton, Salamonis and the Trolltooth Pass, following in the footsteps of other adventurers with the same quest as him, as Hikaz Mandeera and Sinna the Sly.

He finally found the city and its priestess, Alesstis. He had to cross the Gates of Death and fight Ulrakaah in the Realm of the Dead, the cause of the plague.
