The Hero of Trial of Champions was sailing from Port Blacksand to Oyster Bay in a small boat which was attacked by slavers in the pay of Lord Carnuss. After being forced to compete against other captives to find the fittest, the hero was entered into the Trial of Champions one year after the challenge was defeated by the Hero of Deathtrap Dungeon.[1]
The hero triumphed and was granted the right to fight Lord Carnuss to the death as a reward, in addition to the usual trappings of victory.[2] After recuperating for a week, the hero decided to "hire an army and conquer the unknown lands to the east of the Moonstone Hills" and set out at the head of that army a week later.[3]
It is possible for the hero to have taken part in other books either before or afterwards. In particular, he or she may have gone on to be the protagonist of Armies of Death. The three Pre-generated Player Characters are the same as those in Deathtrap Dungeon and Armies of Death, indicating that the heroes of all three may have been the same person. However, as there are three characters, it is also possible that each book was completed by a different one or two books by one and one by another. Alternatively, these characters may have died whilst attempting one of these books and the hero may be someone else entirely.
