Origins and Distribution[]
Horntoads are found dwelling in marshy areas and caves. They often form raiding parties of two to seven individuals.[1]
A group of Giant Horntoads guarded the kidnapped Princes of Ham in Gallantaria.[2] Another group of Horntoads dwells in the Daddu-Yadu caves on the Kakhabad coast.[1] "Horntoad" is used as an insult by the Black Elves of this region, suggesting previous conflicts between the two peoples.[3]
Description[]
Horntoads are green-skinned, warty humanoids about two metres tall, with a fanged mouth and a pair of curving horns on their craniums, that give the beasts their name.[1] Horntoads devour whatever food they can obtain. They particularly like insects, and their favourite food are bees.[1] Larger groups of Horntoads usually dwell in remote marshes, or caverns inundated with water. Here the Horntoad community will be ruled by a stronger individual, with Skill 10 and Stamina 10. During the full moon, male and female Horntoads will gather in their home lair to spawn, and pay homage to their deity, Furlakk the Frog God.[1] Horntoads live through a similar life cycle to their remote amphibian antecedents, although Horntoad tadpoles are big, numerous and highly carnivorous (KILLER TADPOLE, Skill 3 Stamina 3, Small Bite).[1] Occasionally, small groups of Horntoads serve as soldiers of fortune, and serve evil lords or wizards.
In combat, Horntoads usually fight with a Pole Arm such as a halberd, or their claws; Horntoads do not wear armour.[1]
