Hovel of the Vampire is an amateur Fighting Fantasy adventure by Greg Neill. It was first published online in 2014 at the Fighting Fantazine Forum.

Background[]

Now, good sir, would you be willing to visit the sage’s dwelling, and vanquish the darkness that will take or turn us? I don’t wish to be killed, or be made a bloodthirsty fiend. He pauses. Although to be honest I’d probably go for the second one...

In Hovel of the Vampire you play an inexperienced warrior who strolls into a village just as a curse is set to be fulfilled: A vampire has escaped his imprisonment after centuries beneath the ground and now plots his revenge from the home of a local sage. You are the villagers' only hope!

The adventure in general follows the original rules set down in The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (see Game System).

Reviews[]

Mudworm’s writing is modern and fluid, very easy to read and his knowledge of tropes allows him to play off those with great touch of humour that simultaneously blink at the knowledgeable reader without insulting his intelligence. [...] As for the story/game itself, the subject matter isn’t fresh by any means, but the treatment (modern writing and trope uses as described above) gives it a fresh coat of paint and the length makes sure that, in any case, the story doesn’t overstay its welcome. - Dominic Marquotte[1]
