Incus is one of the floating islands of Pangaria, deep within the tempest Zephyrus in the Ocean of Tempests.[1] Kept aloft by technomancy, it is one of the five larger outer islands of Pangaria, and has a working community that specialises in fishing.[1][2]
Description[]
Incus floats closer to the surface of the Ocean of Tempests, and is the only island granted direct access to the ocean by the Pangarian authorities.[3]
Fishing[]
Incus is known as the fishing island of Pangaria, and most of its residents choose to remain on Incus and join its working community of fishermen.[1][3]
The sea around Pangaria is usually calm and rich with fish, and islanders build and use various fishing craft to trawl here, with embedded storm crystals that allow the craft to fly up to and down from Incus.[3] They bring fresh fish, seaweed, coral, and shells, as well as "other sea-born bounties" to the islands.[3] These are relatively manoeverable and quiet to avoid the risk of attracting the attention of the many dangerous sea creatures that inhabit the Ocean of Tempests.[3]
They also gather and hunt underwater using bathyspheres, often travelling beyond Zephyrus to do so.[3]
Trade[]
The limited trade that Pangaria conducts with the mainland is carried out by Incus islanders, who use bathyspheres to travel there.[3] The islanders have trusted sources on the mainland, but even these are never allowed to set foot on Pangaria, in order to keep the civilisation secret from the rest of Titan.[3]
Rescue[]
Incus fishermen very occasionally rescue shipwrecked survivors, and will attempt to help them as best they can.[3] Those who need more help than they can give are brought back to Pangaria, where they are looked after and given sanctuary, but must never leave the archipelago to make sure that it remains a secret.[3]
