Into the Doors of Eryx is a fan written Stellar Adventures mini-campaign with some Advanced Fighting Fantasy elements. It is written for 2 to 5 players that will generate ad hoc characters for this game (space explorers hoping to find some rare minerals on the dreadful planet Eryx).
This mini-campaign was published in instalments over seven issues of The Warlock Returns between October 2022 and April 2025: The Warlock Returns Issue 7, The Warlock Returns Issue 8, The Warlock Returns Issue 9, The Warlock Returns Issue 10, The Warlock Returns Issue 11, The Warlock Returns Issue 12, The Warlock Returns Issue 13.
Background[]
“ |
Eryx is a planet orbiting the star Glantanka, following an inner orbit compared to Titan, the planet you come from. Eryx is a boring, dreadful planet, but there is a very good reason for sending missions there: the Stanfield-Utoshski catalysts! [...] You are a Prospector, a space traveller, sent to Eryx at huge cost and on a three year shift, to pick up Stanfield-Utoshski catalysts from the surface of the planet. It is a well-paid job, but it is also very hard work, and dull.[1] |

Rules[]
This mini-campaign follows in general the original rules set down in Stellar Adventures and (in minor part) in the second edition of Advanced Fighting Fantasy – The Roleplaying Game, by Arion Games (see Advanced Fighting Fantasy System). The character generation is adapted specifically for this adventure.

- The life forms of Eryx mentioned in this adventure are in general transported to Stellar Adventures stat blocks and matching the descriptions from the short story "In the Walls of Eryx" by H. P. Lovecraft and Kenneth J. Sterling, that clearly inspired this adventure. For example, Eryx, or the Erycinian Highland, is a vast plateau on Venus in that fictional short story.
- In this adventure Vladimir Utoshski (that is the antagonist of Appointment with F.E.A.R. (book)) is mentioned as a famous scientist that, a century before this Stellar Adventures story set in the future, theorised the existence of certain geologic formations (called Stanfield-Utoshski catalysts) that can produce cold fusion, that is the main source of energy for the world of Titan.[2]
- The initial objective of this adventure is retrieving the body of a pioneering prospector called Stanfield (his name is also part of the Stanfield-Utoshski catalysts). Prospector Kenton J. Stanfield was the protagonist of the lovecraftian short story "In the Walls of Eryx" that clearly inspired this adventure. The location and position of his body in the adventure is another close connection to the same short story.
- In this adventure there is a gruff non playing character called Sergeant Saunders. In Appointment with F.E.A.R. there is a similarly gruff non playing character called Colonel Saunders. A very similarly gruff non playing character following very closely the same behavioural patterns can be encountered also in Stuart Lloyd's 'Saucer Shenanigans' adventure for Stellar Adventures, but his name is Captain Jello.
- In this adventure there are several references to Slaves of the Abyss (book), both in locations and creatures.
- In this adventure arguably there is a reference to the (lovecraftian) Necrotic Wilderness of Q'yann from Moonrunner (book): an obscure and mysterious super-creature called Q'yanhn.
