Origins and Distribution[]
The Island Crocodile is a type of Crocodile found on the scattered islands of the Western Ocean. The sole record of its existence comes from a Crocodile Amulet owned by Malu the Witchdoctor, one of the crew of the pirate-lord Cinnabar.[1] Given that there are no references in canon to Crocodiles from the Old World, and that Malu likely came from Bone Island, it is possible that this amulet indicates the existence of Island Crocodiles on Bone Island. Certainly there is no shortage of habitat as the island has marshes, a permanent river, and a lagoon.[2]
The Island Crocodile is likely found on other islands in the vicinity, such as Skull Island, Fish Island, and the Blood Islands.[3] It is not known whether its range would encompass more far-flung locales such as the Coral Islands, the Bird Islands, or the Shark Islands.
It is most closely related to the Northern Crocodile, especially the population from Fire Island, and is derived from individuals washed out to sea that have landed on these islands and established themselves. For this reason, the rest of this entry, plus the creature's stats, have been taken directly from an encounter with the Fire Island Northern Crocodile.[4]
Description[]
Island Crocodiles are large reptiles, around three metres long.[5] They have four legs with webbed feet, a vertically-flattened tail for propelling them through the water, and long, tooth-filled jaws for catching prey. Island Crocodiles are covered in armoured scales that range in colour from yellow through green and grey, to almost black.
Special Abilities[]
- Similar to other Crocodiles, Island Crocodies are not so skilled when fighting on land (their skill being reduced by 2 points), but if they can lure or drag their prey into the water to fight, they will prove deadly opponents.[6] This is represented by making an opponent fighting a Crocodile reduce their Attack Strength by 1 whilst standing waist-deep in water.[7] Alternatively, there are a range of skill modifiers for combat depending on whether the victim is knee-deep in water (-2), waist-deep (-4), up to their neck (-6), or swimming (-8).[8]

- Island Crocodiles are known for their voracious appetites, and they spend much of their day swimming in search of Fish, or larger prey if they are lucky, visible only as a pair of eyes peeking out above the surface of the water. The rest of the time they will be basking on the shore in the sun. Island Crocodiles may be tremendously aggressive, and are not afraid to attack men or other creatures which disturb them.[6]
- Island Crocodiles are known to be preyed upon by shoals of Piranha[9], which are also recorded from Bone Island[10]
- The powers of Malu's Crocodile Amulet are unknown, but may serve as protection from Island Crocodile attacks.[11]
