Mawn Pretagorus was a necromancer who dwelled in Divil's Lane in Blackhaven in Gallantaria, shortly after the end of the War of the Four Kingdoms.[1]
Despite his profession, he gave little indication of being a genuinely Evil Man, but more one who has sacrificed much to pursue interests typically seen as supremely dangerous and worrying. The street Pretagorous dwelled in, Divil's Lane, was located "beneath a permanent veil of mist." His home, much like himself, was incredibly eerie. Pretagorus' house appeared fashioned out of constantly shifting angles, had a central room shrouded in near-total darkness, and possessed a portal (called the Door Beyond) directly to the hellish dimension called the Necrotic Wilderness of Q'yann.[2]
Professor Van Heldenghast knew of Pretagorus, and advised those seeking magical assistance to seek out the necromancer.[3] Pretagorus was of great assistance to a bounty hunter seeking Karam Gruul, by utilising the occult energies he was familiar with to release the true power of a Hand of Glory - originally just the wooden hand of a convicted criminal - and make it into a true Ward of Notura. This allowed the bounty hunter to avoid Gruul's attempt to transform him into a mindless beast by means of a hypnotic implant powered by the dark art of Notura.[4]
Rough Guide to the Pit states that as of 284 AC, Pretagorus' "abode and sanctum lie in ruins beneath the Blackhaven slums." Pretagorus' ultimate fate is unknown.[5]
Further Notes[]
- Recent, rumours have spread across the northern Old World that an occultist "has finally discovered some of Mawn Pretoragus's research and is planning to open a portal to Q'Yann again." [6]
