Description[]
MERFOLK had the upper halves of normal humans, except that they had a pale blue-green tint. They had air-breathing lungs, but there were also gill-slits in the sides of their neck, usually hidden by their long flowing hair. From the waist downwards though, each had a tail like a fish, covered in scales. They could swim very fast using their tails, yet still carry weapons or objects in their hands.
MERMEN were the warriors of the race. Proud and haughty, they were sometimes seen patrolling the depths with dolphins, on the look-out for sharks and other predators. They were usually seen carrying spears or tridents, and sometime shields. They were known to have little time for the affairs of the surface world, and treated their infrequent encounters with humans with disdain.
MERMAIDS, the females of the species, had a different view of the world beyond the waters. A lone Mermaid may have sometimes been met basking on a rock in a secluded part of the sea-shore, singing to herself.
Origins and Distribution[]
MERFOLK were, quite simply, the people of the sea. They may have once been human, but their bodies became perfectly adapted to life under the waves. They made their homes in caves and sheltered corners on the ocean floor, where they grew crops of seaweed, algae and other food.
Special Abilities[]
The song of a mermaid was so enchanting that all males who heard it would immediately fall in love with her. She would choose one of them and beckon him into the water with her. The chosen person would desperately want to do this, but may Test for Luck to see if all his resistance is overcome. In this case, if he is Unlucky, he would resist the Mermaid's song, her spell would be broken and she would swim away alone. If the victim was charmed, and no-one tried to stop him, they would dive beneath the waves together to live under the sea. In time, his body would adapt until he became a Merman, and the Mermaid would come looking for another human.
