Messenger of Death were strange creatures that worked as assassins.[1]

Description[]

Messengers of death appeared as zombie-like humans, dressed in ragged shrouds, their eyes and mouths full of mucus, making their voices little more than a sickly gurgle. They would silently approach their victim, rapping lightly on one shoulder before murmuring the word 'Death' in a dramatic manner. They would then proceed to slink away to lay out traps for the game that was to follow.[1]

The messenger would stay ahead of its victim, leaving letters marked in prominent places - painted on doors, chipped into stone etc. If all the letters were read, they would spell the word 'Death', and the messenger would reappear to watch the life drain out of its helpless pray.[1]

They were known to be utilised to kill particularly skilled or stubborn enemies, where highly trained mercenaries were not sufficient to eliminate the target.[1]

Origins and Distribution[]

Messengers of Death were known to reside in the Demonic Planes, and were summoned by a secret ritual to kill powerful opponents, taking as payment the life force of their victims.[1]

Special Abilities[]

Messengers could only be harmed at the very moment the 'contract' was finalised, when the word was first spoken. As the vile creature touched its victim to seal it, its guard was dropped, and a silver dagger would negate the contract.[1]
