Mimic Stalactites are a type of Monster in the Fighting Fantasy franchise.
Origins and Distribution[]
Mimic Stalactites are cave-dwellers, where they wait, clinging to a ceiling, for the passage of an unweary victim beneath. At this point they attempt to move into position and then drop down on their prey, using their pointed stalactite-like shells to try and impale it. They usually live in colonies of at least six individuals in order to improve their chances of bringing down their quarry.[1]
Description[]
On the outside, Mimic Stalactites just look like normal stalactites. If a character is observant, however, he will notice them move just as they prepare to strike.[2]
Special Abilities[]
Mimic Stalactites usually attack by surprise, dropping down on unsuspecting victims as soon as these pass beneath them. Usually this entails that a victim will be automatically hit by at least one Mimic (roll dice to determine the number of Mimics hitting a victim, up to the maximum of perhaps six for a human-sized target).[2]
Further Notes[]
- The Mimic Stalactites are quite likely based on Piercers, snail-like cave-dwelling mollusks which look and hunt similarly to the Mimic Stalactite, from the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons franchise.[3][4]
