Oin was a dwarf fur-trapper and adventurer from Stonebridge in north-west Allansia.[1]

Description[]

Oin was a contemporary of Nicodemus and a former adventuring companion of Varag Hawkflight.

History[]

He was with Hawkflight when he buried his treasure near Firetop Mountain. Varag entrusted Oin with the knowledge of the treasure's exact location and told Oin that if he ever felt he would never see another sun-up, he would send a young hero to find it in his stead.[2] Varag later retired to Arantis and it is unclear if he and Oin saw each other again.

Oin remained in Stonebridge and regularly ventured into the Moonstone Hills to make camp and hunt for furs. It is known that he utilised snare traps when doing so and sang as he went about his work.

Many years after Varag had buried his treasure he posthumously sent Jerik Kalazar on a quest to claim the treasure as his own and fulfilling the promise he had made to Oin. Varag left a coded message containing Oin's name in Port Blacksand with the wizard Nicodemus. When Jerik finally found Oin in the Moonstone Hill's on one of his hunting trips, Oin admitted he knew where the treasure was but was reluctant to simply pass on this knowledge to Jerik. Knowing that his old comrade Varag would have been careful when selecting a young hero to find his treasure and that Varag had also enjoyed riddles, Oin set Jerik a riddle to answer.

It comes in all kinds of colours and hues, It’s found in fawns, but not greens or blues. In mountains you’ll find it, and close to the summit, It's soft and warm and everyone wants it. It’s part of regal and royal and princely and pure, If you’re like me, you’ll always want more!; It marks the difference between rich and poor- So tell me, human, what I’m hunting for!"

Jerik was able to answer the riddle by deducing the answer was "Fur" and Oin took him to the site of buried treasure near Firetop Mountain.
