This is a list of the 1055 monsters listed in the books Out of the Pit, Beyond the Pit, The Titan Herbal, Demons of Doom, Rough Guide to the Pit and Return to the Pit. The Fighting Fantasy book the monster first appeared in and the creator of the monster are listed. The first illustration of the monster (if any) are listed, along with the artist who drew the illustration.

The original cover of the book was designed and illustrated by Les Edward. It had originally been used as the cover of Return to Firetop Mountain.

Illustrations
The interior illustrations were by various artists. Each monster description is followed by an illustration. And many of the most well known Fighting Fantasy Artists are represented here as the majority of drawings are from the gamebooks. However, there are some fifty original illustrations as well.
