Rune Carving is the magic of carving special Runes into objects to endow them with supernatural powers.[1]
This magical style is mainly associated with the Dwarf people. A Dwarf discovered to have magical aptitude will be be trained in the Dwarfs' own magical tradition, Rune Carving.[1] Such a dwarf is known as a Rune Carver or Runesmith, who practices the craft of making rune-engraved magical weapons, armour and other equipment of use to their fellows. Although this process is slower and more labour-intensive than the spellcasting of other species, the magical items created by Rune Carving are useful and can also be used quickly by a user who is wearing heavy armour.[1][2]
The Dwarves were taught the secrets of Rune Carving by the Earth Elementals in the remote past. The language used for creating or activating a rune is a form of the Elemental language; it also has resemblances to ancient Dwarvish.[1]
