The Shael-Beasts were a race of hideous obese birds.[1]
Description[]
They were extremely large, with a comparative tiny pair of wings to beat to stay aloft, which would cause their layers of fat to jiggle about grotesquely.
They had a bizarre habit of deflating when killed, which would release fetid air.
Origins and Distribution[]
The scholar Fabneaus believed shael-beasts to be distantly related to cockatrices.
Shael-Beasts had been recorded living in the Arrowhead Islands, the Coral Islands and the Isles of the Dawn.[1]
Their nest were large sprawling ground-based affairs, and were usually filled with decaying matter and carrion.
On the Isles of the Dawn, condemned criminals are often sealed in the bladders of dead Shael-Beasts, and cast out on to the ocean to "live a short life of seclusion and madness". [2]
