Shakuru was the City of Beggars in south-west Khul.

Description[]

Once just an old leper colony of the Southerners; the remnant of the peoples who once dwelt in the south of Irritaria all the way to the Catsblood River. It was further enlarged by outcasts from Zagoula.

This foul city sat in the far south-west of the Scythera Desert and was home to Holagar the Wretched, The Beggar-King and his plague-ridden citizens.[1]

The Beggar-King commanded the loyalty of most of the beggars on Titan, even those in the Beggars' Guild in distant Port Blacksand.[2]

It was a city populated by outcasts who traded with the desert goblins and nomadic lizard people, and who also raided the barbarian settlements west of Kish. The city is little more than a massive pile of debris and garbage in whose rickety temples praise is offered up to Disease and Decay, the patrons and spiritual lords of the city.

Rats and flies are bred and released by the inhabitants to serve their gods by spreading disease across the world.

A group called the "Sickness Priests of Shakuru" are based in the city. The Sickness Priests deliberately disperse diseases across Khul, and will sometimes summon a Plague Demon from the Infernal Pit to assist them in this task.[3]

Notes[]

  • It is thought a conclave of awkmutes dwells within the city of Shakuru, providing spiritual guidance to the Beggar-King Holagar the Wretched and his plague-wracked citizens.[4]
