The Shining Islands are a group of three primary islands in the Ocean of Tempests, to the west of Khul.[1][2]

Description[]

Mariners from Khul sometimes visit these islands, since the ocean currents and trade winds blow towards the archipelago.[3] These Khulian sailors have recorded that the names of the three Shining Islands are Anich-Kel, Kalkemich, and Len-Yazie, the "Isle of Lost Tombs".[2][4]

Scholars of Titan have found that "the isles take their very name from the valuable golden seashells of clams, cowries, conches and others that wash up on their silvery sands".[5]

Kalkemich, Len-Yazie and Anich-Kel are all inhabited by a human tribe called the Dai people.[6] The town of Port Yao on the eastern coast of Kalkemich is the main port for the islands; visitors from Khul usually disembark there.[4]

There is a sea lane running between the Shining Islands and Kalima; ships frequently sail between the two locations.[7]

History[]

An explorer from Kalima, Neklag Wavecutter recently explored the Shining Islands and made a journal, Beyond the Western Dusk, with detailed notes on the Archipelago's fauna.

Wavecutter's journal was later retrieved from his derelict ship Sojourner, found floating in the Bay of Cats. Wavecutter's whereabouts and fate are currently unknown.[2][5]

Further Notes[]

  • In the Myriador conversion of Kharé - Cityport of Traps, there is a stall in Kharé selling what are claimed to be "Golden charms made from rare sea shells found only on the beaches of The Shining Islands." These are fakes - they are ordinary snail shells which have been painted gold.[8] These are intended to counterfeit the real shells found in the Shining Islands.[4]
