The Skorn were a race of short, pale hairless humanoids who lived underground.[1]
Description[]
Skorn resembled orcs and hobgoblins, although it was not believed that the skorn were related to these species. They had large, bald foreheads, and eyes that could see well in near-darkness, though they still often used lanterns. Fangs poked up from their mouths, which they used to chew rats, moles and underground creatures for food. They mostly wore only loincloths and sandals, carrying thin daggers often made from flint.
Skorn were often muscular, and by nature were building constantly with pickaxes.[1]
Skorn were somewhat parochial and suspicious of non-dwarf outsiders. Unauthorised intruders into skorn tunnels would be politely but firmly directed to leave skorn territory. [1]
It is rumoured the skorn were ruled over by a warrior, a descendant of the heroes of their revolt, who lived in a cavern decorated with treasure. [1]
Origins and Distribution[]
Originally, the skorn were enslaved by the n'yadach, and forced to build edifices for their masters. During the n'yadach war with the dwarfs, the skorn rebelled, and joined forces with the dwarfs. [1][2] After the defeat of the n'yadach, the dwarfs granted the skorn a region of the underground to rule, and the two peoples have remained friendly. [1]
Further Notes[]
- The skorn appear in Out of the Pit and Titan, but occur almost nowhere else in Fighting Fantasy canon. The skorn are briefly mentioned in the Advanced Fighting Fantasy RPG, and the Beyond The Pit sourcebook.[3][4]
