Spit Toads were a species of pond-dwelling amphibians that could expel acid.[1]
Description[]
Spit toads were best described as huge man-sized toad-like amphibians with a massive belly, green skin and a wide mouth full of spiked teeth.[2][3]
Even in the most placid and idyllic pools, dangerous creatures may lurk just below the surface. The spit toad was one such peril, a man-sized carnivorous amphibian that attacked by shooting a jet of sticky acid at the eyes of any creature stopping to drink at its pool.[2]
Spit toads were solitary creatures,[4] and would only meet up on one night a year, to mate and spawn in the moonlight before returning to the safety of their lonely pools, to wait for their next meal.[2]
Spit toads needed constant contact with water.[5]
Origins and Distribution[]
They had been noted appearing upon Fire Island, off the western coast of Allansia.[6] However, they also occurred in certain Marshes and Rivers of Allansia,[7] so it was likely they were found in similar habitats across all three continents.[8]
Spit toads were almost certainly related to the equally-widespread giant toad. Another close relative could be the much larger chaos slime beast of northern Allansia, especially since it too has an acidic drool like the Spit Toad.[9]
Special Abilities[]
When a spit toad launched its acid-spitting attack, the target would have to be quick or be blinded by the liquid. This could leave them vulnerable to the spit toad as it leaped out of the water and attacked with a mouth full of teeth. If its opponent had been blinded, it will automatically bite him on its first strike, inflicting damage; otherwise the fight would proceed as normal.
Should the spit toad kill its opponent it would swallow them whole, before leaping back into its pool.[2]
Further Notes[]
- Spit Toads appear as one of the 100 creatures in the "Out of the Pit" bestiary in Issue 2 of Warlock.[10]
