The Talisman of Death is a disc of obsidian, in the middle of which is a skull carved in ruby, all hanging on a necklace. Long ago, the minions of the God Death (Orb), in the City of the Runes of Doom, fashioned the Talisman of Death, that would allow them, if the time was right, to summon their God to the surface of Orb. The Fleshless King has hidden the Talisman of Death in the Rift for safe-keeping until the time is right to summon Death to the surface of Orb and cease all life. Only Death's minions will continue to exist in an awful half-life. The Loremasters of Serakub are a group of holy people that, at the time of Talisman of Death (book) tried preventing this plan by sending a group of Crusaders to steal the Talisman of Death and send it to another world, as it can not be destroyed on Orb.[1]
The Talisman feels more heavy in presence of minions of Death[2] and it bears an inscription that glows when minions of Death are near: 'I am Death's Talisman. I am protected by the Faceless Ones who serve my wielder.'[3] The 'Faceless Ones' are Wraith (Orb)s.[4]
