A Tarator is a huge, ugly beast usually found wandering caverns underground.[1]

Description[]

Tarators stood almost two and a half metres tall, and their fat, leathery bodies are humanoid in shape and covered in folds of grey-green skin. Their huge heads look like an unfortunate cross between a toad and a gibbon, and they have enormous mouths to serve their main occupations, which is eating. Tarators are solitary creatures, mostly because of their foul temperaments. They stamp around their domains, snarling to themselves and cursing all existence. They will attack almost anything they take a dislike to, from dragons to daisies. Tarators rarely stay in one place for very long, and they never keep treasure, except to eat out of spite.[2]

Origins and Distribution[]

They are both very rare and very dangerous, and nothing is known of their origins or their distribution across Titan.

A potential theory, going by their physical appearance (particularly the structure of their head and hands), is that they represent a giant, solitary, cave-dwelling version of the Kokomokoa, though there is nothing in canon to support this.[3] If this were the case, then the Tarator would technically be type Humanoid/Amphibian, though we have left them as type Monster here, which is how they have been described in Out of the Pit.

Special Abilities[]

They can be very dangerous adversaries. In a fight, a Tarator's enormous clawed fists will cause 3 stamina points of damage after a successful hit.[1] Alternatively, if you are using the Advanced Fighting Fantasy rules system, then the weapon type used by a Tarator is "Very Large Claw".[4]

Tarators have thick, blubbery skin, and any winning hit against them will do 1 stamina point of damage less than usual.[2]
