The Void is the nothingness into which the Dark Lords of Chaos - including Death, Disease and Decay - were banished after their defeat in the First Battle.[1][2] The Void lies below the lowest Plane of The Infernal Pit ; a waterfall of blood, ichor and other waste called the Voidal Sump flows from the Pit into the Void. [3] The Void has been described as "a Nothingness that exists outside of existence".[2] Any being who is cast into the Void, or enters it accidentally, will be trapped in it forever.[2] There is no known way to rescue a being from imprisonment in the Void, with "even Gods being powerless to intervene."[2] However, Death is known to be able to communicate with the Demon Princes in the Pit despite being trapped in the Void. This implies prisoners of the Void may still be able to transmit and receive information from outside the dimension.[1] Titan stated that prisoners of the Void may make brief "special visits to the various Planes of existence". However, it is also stated that since their imprisonment, "it costs them dearly in energy" to temporarily leave the Void, so the Dark Lords cannot unleash their full power upon Titan.[1] Nor can the Dark Lords permanently escape from the Void.[1]
Believed to be infinite and beyond the control of any being, the Void can nonetheless be accessed and manipulated by certain individuals. The Riddling Reaver was one such individual, with an open portal to the Void behind a wooden door in the heart of his retreat.[2] The Reaver used this portal to dispose of his more troublesome enemies.[2] How the Void was kept from infringing on the material world through such a permanent portal is unknown.
