Varick Oathbreaker was the long term rival and nemesis of the Hero of Tannatown.
History[]
He and his gang had attempted to perform the same quests as the hero, but were unsuccessful. For example, he competed with the hero to rescue the daughter of Duke Ervane from the Hill Giants of Gog Magog, but failed. [1]
Oathbreaker was described as a "Bounty hunter".[1] He sometimes also resorted to banditry, ambushing travellers using archery. [2]
If travelling from Lake Cauldron to Chalannabrad, it was possible the Hero may have encountered Varick in a small wood. Tellingly, Varick only took part in the battle after the rest of his gang was dead. [3]
Varick's gang included a Scarred Ruffian, a Brutal Brigand, a Hired Thug, and a Lumbering Lout. Generally, only Varrick would carry anything of value.[4]
