Vengeance at Midnight was a fan written Fighting Fantasy adventure by Alexander Ballingall. It was first published online in issue 8 of Fighting Fantazine in 2012.
Background[]
“ Rumours are swirling in the Titan City underworld that a new super villain is poised to unleash a new reign of terror upon the unsupecting city. YOU, the Silver Crusader, defender of Titan City, are needed to unmask and defeat this super villain before the chaos can spread. But can you unravel the hints and clues you have gathered in time to make a difference?[1] ”
Rules[]
The adventure in general follows the original rules set down in The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (see Game System).
Unique Rules[]
Vengeance at Midnight reuses the rules from Appointment with F.E.A.R. with some additions and modifications:
- Hero Points, which are awarded to the player for every villain captured and disaster averted, allowing them to compare their performance from one play-through to the next. Unlike Appointment with F.E.A.R. and Deadline to Destruction where the player begins with 0 Hero Points, here they begin with 3. If this score drops to 0 then are instructed to turn to a certain paragraph.
- The player is not allowed to kill their enemies, only disable them, and any death results in the loss of Hero Points.
- The player is also given three "Clues" at the start of the adventure.
- Players have the choice of one of four "super powers" with which to play the game: Super Strength, Psi-Powers, Enhanced Technological Skill (ETS), and Energy Blast.
- The player can carry a maximum of 3 items at any one time.
Equipment List[]
In the "Background" the player is mentioned as wearing a Crimewatch. No other equipment list is given for the player except those choosing the ETS "super power" which gives them an Accessory Belt.
