Warpstone was a strange stone city, built on the side of a cliff which was almost a kilometre high.[1]
Description[]
The inhabitants lived in buildings built into the side of the cliff, which were connected to caves and tunnels inside the mountain. The current ruler of the city is a dwarf named King Kurad Dragonhelm, who ruled a tribe of dwarves who dwelt in the cliff city.[2] Warpstone had a population of 55,000 inhabitants, mainly dwarves, with some humans.[1]
Some of the dwarfs of Warpstone were descended from refugees, who fled Haelsgarth after it was seized by the evil wizard Axion.[3]
Warpstone had a standing army of 500 soldiers.[1]
The 'bandits of Warpstone' carried long blades called needle-swords which are so well balanced that they could be thrown like throwing daggers.[4]
The rocky plains before Warpstone were once the site of a battle between the armies of general Guthric Wolfsheart and the evil troll, King Nurm.[5]
Notable Inhabitants[]
Gandor Dire, the father of Craggen Dire and grandfather of Balthus Dire, was a resident of Warpstone driven out for practicing forbidden magic.[6]
The Male Human Adventurer and Beastmaster, Ghor of Warpstone, was born and raised in this city.[7]
Location[]
The position of Warpstone with respect to the Craggen Heights is rather ambiguous on the full continent map of Allansia in Titan - The Fighting Fantasy World.[8] The map of Allansia in Dungeoneer shows Warpstone lying on the eastern side of the Craggen Heights, with a road from the city leading to Salamonis.[9] Allansia describes Warpstone as lying "on the northern edge of the Craggen Heights",[1] but this is at odds with its position on Voloidon Carsak's map of the Desert of Skulls, which depicts the city lying on the south-eastern side of the Heights.[10] The map of the Craggen Heights in the Advanced Fighting Fantasy – The Roleplaying Game adaption of Citadel of Chaos (AFF) shows Warpstone to be on the south-eastern side of the Heights.[11]
Further Notes[]
- "Dwarf Goods" from Warpstone (such as weapons, armour, and tools) are traded across Allansia and beyond. [12]
